Change is difficult for people to accept and experience. Many fear the idea of change, change in one’s circumstance and change in oneself. Some fear they can’t change and others fear that if they do actually change, their life as they currently know it will change. We are creatures of habit and are nicely settled into our current circumstance no matter how it makes us feel. To fear the unknown outcome of change seems almost justified, when we are use to our current situation. Although, shouldn’t we fear being stagnant more than we should fear change. Everything in our universe is in constant change; if things in our universe didn't change we would be without day and night, four seasons, and new life. Its better we accept and embrace change rather than fight it. Many of us fear change because it means that they could lose control of all the things they are trying to manage. Generally speaking we control a lot of things in our daily lives, we control what we eat, who we go out with, when we go out, what movie we are going to see and what we’re going to have for dinner tonight. The idea of allowing change to wash over us means that we might not have any control over what changes happen. That’s a scary thought.
The other difficult thing for us to experience is contentment. Contentment feels like an endless human pursuit. This endless chase has been accepted by most of us, mainly because we have never actually felt what it means to be content but we know we want to feel it. The truth is, contentment is something we can attain at this very moment without change. It is a feeling we find within and is often confused for something we can only attain with a life change or once we obtain something.
Human nature is confusing and contradictory. We fear change but believe that change is necessary to feel content, a feeling we’ve never experienced but want to. Often times we think that changing partners, the city we live in or our current job, will lead us closer to feeling content.
